Peace of God

These couple scriptures impressed me this week during my scripture study (my HWN)… First, how Alma recognized that the Spirit had not failed him, even though he felt sorrow and saw so much suffering.

And now it came to pass that Alma, having seen the afflictions of the humble followers of God, and the persecutions which were heaped upon them by the remainder of his people, and seeing all their inequality, began to be very sorrowful; nevertheless the Spirit of the Lord did not fail him. (Alma 4:15)

Sometimes I may think that the Spirit has failed me… in reality though, the presence of trials and sorrow in my life does not mean that’s what happened. Alma shared some things a few chapters later that I think explain how this is possible.

And now, may the peace of God rest upon you, and upon your houses and lands, and upon your flocks and herds, and all that you possess, your women and your children, according to your faith and good works, from this time forth and forever. And thus I have spoken. Amen. (Alma 7:27)

We can experience the “peace of God” based on our faith and choices, not based upon our circumstances :)
