Is Christ the Shepherd or the Sheep?

He’s both!

Though it probably sounds better to say that he is the Shepherd and the Lamb (sheep sometimes doesn’t have a good connotation), like in this verse:

“And they must come according to the words which shall be established by the mouth of the Lamb; and the words of the Lamb shall be made known in the records of thy seed, as well as in the records of the twelve apostles of the Lamb; wherefore they both shall be established in one; for there is one God and one Shepherd over all the earth.” (1 Nephi 13:41)

This might be one of my posts where you think “Duh Zach…” but it struck me yesterday that Christ was called “the Lamb” and “Shepherd” in the same verse.

Christ is the perfect Shepherd because He is the perfect Lamb.

The relationship between a shepherd and his sheep is one of mutual trust and familiarity. Christ knows, trusts, and follows His Father/Shepherd perfectly. This allows Him to be our perfect spiritual Father and Shepherd :)

My HWN since yesterday has been pondering Christ’s role as both Shepherd and Lamb.

p.s. While speaking of Christ, I’ll share the text of my 5-year-old niece’s recent talk in primary. I love her testimony :)

Hi my name is Madison, and today I’m gonna talk about Jesus. And He can always help us when we need it. When you feel scared he can tell you can say a prayer, and it will be good if you say a prayer, and he’ll help you. On Christmas we celebrate Jesus‘s birth, and when he was born Mary and Joseph were real, and a real angel came to earth when Jesus was born and to make sure that the wise men came. The wise men gave Jesus gifts. Angels came to tell the shepherds also, and they went to see the baby Jesus. Now I’m going to talk about Jesus helping us. So Jesus can help us whenever we need it, and he can also help us when were scared and if we are on fire. If someone put us on fire Jesus will protect us. Jesus died so we can live with Heavenly Father again and all our family. I know Jesus loves us so so much. In the name of Jesus Christ amen.

p.p.s. I uploaded the video of surprising my sister at the airport to YouTube:
